By default, when you take a UV snapshop, Maya will make the lines representing the edges white and everything else black.
The best way to make a guide in Photoshop is to invert the colors (press CTRL+I to do so). Then set the blending mode to Multiply and lock the layer.
As long as you keep the UV snapshop layer on top it will be visible all the time!
